The Best Mailchimp Alternative for AI Agents

The best Mailchimp alternative for AI agents

If you want a Mailchimp alternative that an AI agent can actually operate, and that costs less as your list grows, AgentsMail is built for exactly that: every action is an API call, sends are refused with a named reason when something is wrong, and the Free plan covers 10,000 contacts. MailerLite and Brevo are solid alternatives too, depending on what you need.

Updated on 2026-10-03. Competitor prices are in USD, taken from their official pricing pages on that date.

This page explains why teams leave Mailchimp, what to check in a replacement, and how three alternatives compare, strengths included.

Why people look for a Mailchimp alternative

Mailchimp is the reference for a reason: a mature drag-and-drop builder, hundreds of integrations, landing pages, generative AI features on its Standard and Premium plans. Most teams who leave do not leave because it is bad. They leave for one of four reasons.
  1. Price grows with contacts. Mailchimp bills on your audience size. Its pricing page currently shows Essentials from $13/month, Standard from $20/month and Premium from $350/month, labelled as a 50% introductory discount for 12 months, followed by the list price "based on your contacts and email sends". Overages apply above the contact or send limit.
  2. A small free plan. Mailchimp Free is limited to 250 contacts and 500 sends a month (250 a day), with one seat.
  3. Automation depth depends on the tier. Essentials flows are limited to 4 steps; Standard and Premium go up to 200 steps.
  4. Agents are an add-on, not the core. Mailchimp offers a Claude connector, but its own guide presents it as a planning tool: once the plan is ready, "you can move into your Mailchimp account to finalize and send your campaign."
None of these is a flaw if you work in the interface. They become friction when you want an agent to run the routine work.

What to look for in a Mailchimp alternative

Before comparing names, decide which criteria matter for you. For an agent-driven workflow, these are the ones that make or break the setup:
CriterionWhy it mattersWhat to check
Full API coverageAn agent can only do what the API exposesLists, contacts, templates, campaigns, automations, stats
Explicit refusalsAn agent needs to know why a send failedMachine-readable reasons, not a generic error
Safe defaultsMistakes should end in a refusal, not an incidentMandatory unsubscribe, suppression list, silent imports
Predictable pricingAgents make many callsAPI calls not billed separately
Migration pathYou should not lose consent or tagsImport of a Mailchimp export with status and opt-in dates
DeliverabilityGmail and Yahoo now enforce sender rulesDomain authentication, one-click unsubscribe

AgentsMail: the Mailchimp alternative built for AI agents

AgentsMail is an email marketing tool designed to be driven by an agent (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, Gemini, or anything that can make HTTP calls). Your agent manages lists, contacts, tags, segments, templates, campaigns, sequences, series and statistics through the API v1, and you approve each real send. The full workflow is in our guide to AI agent email marketing. Why it is cheaper than Mailchimp for most lists:
PlanPriceEmails / monthContacts
Free€03,00010,000
Pro€19/month50,00050,000
Enterprise€200/month500,000Unlimited
API calls are never billed separately, and the Free plan includes the complete REST API, one sending domain and two sequences. Where it is safer: a send that cannot go out is refused with its reason (domain not verified, ownership unproven, not enough sending units, daily quota exceeded), and a refused scheduled campaign returns to draft rather than half-sending. Hard bounces and spam complaints land on a suppression list automatically. An import never sends anything. Honest limits: there is no drag-and-drop builder. Templates are HTML, and editable zones let a human rewrite the copy without touching the design. There are no custom contact fields, and a contact belongs to exactly one list. If your team designs every email visually from blocks, Mailchimp or MailerLite will feel more familiar.

Moving your Mailchimp templates

AgentsMail converts the common Mailchimp merge tags automatically when you create or update a template, and lists anything it cannot map.

Unsubscribe: {{unsubscribeUrl}}
© {{currentYear}}
*|FNAME|*, *|LNAME|*, *|EMAIL|*, *|UNSUB|* and *|CURRENT_YEAR|* are converted. Anything else is reported in unsupportedTags so it never reaches an inbox raw.
Contacts come over through a CSV export. The import reads Email Address, First Name, Last Name, Tags, Status and the opt-in columns (optin_time, optin_ip, confirm_time, confirm_ip), so the consent proof survives the move.
Migration trap
A Mailchimp export does not say which status it holds. Declare it at import time (subscribed, unsubscribed or cleaned), otherwise an export of unsubscribed people would land as subscribed. AgentsMail asks for that status before importing.

Other Mailchimp alternatives worth considering

AgentsMail is not the only good answer. Two others deserve a serious look.

MailerLite

MailerLite is the closest experience to Mailchimp, with a visual builder, landing pages and a clean interface. Its Free plan covers 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month; paid plans start at $12/month (Comfort) and $25/month (Power), with about 10% off on yearly billing. MailerLite also ships an official MCP server that lets Claude create drafts, manage subscribers and analyse campaigns. Choose it if you want a visual editor first and agent access second.

Brevo

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) prices on email volume rather than contacts, which suits large lists you email rarely. The Free plan allows up to 300 emails a day; Starter starts at $9/month (from 5,000 emails a month), Standard at $18/month and Professional at $499/month. It also covers SMS, WhatsApp and a CRM, and offers an official MCP server for Claude, Cursor and other assistants. Choose it if you need a multichannel suite more than an agent-first email workflow.

FAQ

What is the best free Mailchimp alternative?

For list size, AgentsMail's Free plan is the most generous of the four: 10,000 contacts and 3,000 emails a month, against 250 contacts on Mailchimp Free and 250 subscribers on MailerLite Free. Brevo Free is limited by volume instead, at 300 emails a day.

Is there an email marketing tool cheaper than Mailchimp?

Yes. AgentsMail Pro at €19/month covers 50,000 contacts and 50,000 emails a month, and Brevo's Starter begins at $9/month for 5,000 emails. Compare at your own list size: Mailchimp's displayed prices are a 12-month introductory offer, and its list price then rises with your contacts.

Can I import my Mailchimp audience without losing unsubscribes?

Yes. Export each status from Mailchimp as its own CSV, then import each file while declaring its status. Unsubscribed and cleaned contacts stay out of your sends, and opt-in dates and IPs are kept as consent proof.

Does AgentsMail have a drag-and-drop editor like Mailchimp?

No. Templates are HTML, which is what lets an agent write them. Editable zones give a human a visual way to rewrite the text of each block without breaking the design.

Key takeaways

01People leave Mailchimp mostly over contact-based pricing, a small free plan and tier-gated automation.
02For an agent-run workflow, check API coverage, explicit refusals and safe defaults before features.
03AgentsMail is the agent-first option; MailerLite suits visual editing; Brevo suits multichannel and volume-based pricing.
04Migrate with one CSV per status, declared at import, to keep unsubscribes and consent proof.
Before switching, make sure your domain is ready: good email deliverability: DNS, SPF, DKIM, DMARC covers the records. More comparisons in the alternatives category.
Switch for free
Import your Mailchimp export on the Free plan: 10,000 contacts, 3,000 emails a month, the full API. Create your AgentsMail account or see all plans.
